History of the CSF

In 1905, insurance representatives created the first group aimed at encouraging good business practices among its members. From then on, the associations succeeded one another to become the trustworthy and innovative self-regulatory organization we know today: the Chambre de la sécurité financière.

1999


Bill 188 establishes the CSF. 
 

The Code of Ethics is adopted. It sets out the obligations of representatives toward the general public, their clients, as well as their profession and fellow representatives.

2000


The CSF was one of the first organizations to require continuing education for its members, even before most professional orders in Quebec.

2001


The CSF adopts a Regulation on Ethics in the Securities Disciplines, which serves as a code of ethics.

2002


Bill 107 recognizes the CSF’s status as a self-regulatory organization. 

The CSF now has 28,278 members.

2006


The CSF is the first Canadian organization to require its members to earn professional development units (PDUs) in ethics compliance and professional practice standards.

2011


The CSF is the first Canadian organization to offer a practice support tool that documents and simplifies all aspects of compliance: InfoDéonto.

2013


The CSF launches its first Mandatory Compliance Course, another first in the country! This course also achieves a satisfaction rate of 94%.

2016


The CSF launches ProDéonto, its second mandatory compliance course, which achieves a satisfaction rate of 97%.

2018


The adoption of Bill 141 confirms the relevance of the CSF’s multidisciplinary self-regulation model, a practice oversight system that other provinces are considering as a source of inspiration.

2019


On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the CSF created its first annual continuing education event, then called the ProLab CSF.

2020

The CSF launches ProConseil, its third mandatory compliance course, which achieves a satisfaction rate of 97%.

The CSF signs several partnership agreements with organizations committed to the protection and education of consumers of financial products and services.

2023


The CSF and INRS join forces to create the Chaire Argent, inégalités et société, an economic and social research chair providing professionals with the latest scientific knowledge to help them address financial inequities.

The CSF enters into multiple partnership agreements with organizations focused on protecting and educating consumers of financial products and services.

2024


The CSF celebrates 25 years of multidisciplinary oversight in Quebec.

2025


The CSF launches Déonto Plus, its fourth mandatory course in compliance, which was developed based on best practices in instructional design. The course aims to help participants acquire, understand and apply theoretical and technical knowledge regarding compliance with standards, ethics and professional practice.
